‘A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder’ coming to PPAC

By Laurence J. Sasso, Jr.

Described in press releases as ‘the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, a distant heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession, by any means necessary,” A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder earned four Tony Awards in 2014 and a Grammy in 2015.

The show is coming to PPAC from December 6-11. It promises to be hilarious, and if it lives up to its reputation it should deliver on the promise and then some.

As Navarro strives to advance his standing in the quest for the family money, “he’s got to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea.”

Didn’t they used to call shows like this a romp?

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder features a book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and music and lyrics by Steven Lutvak. Direction is by Darko Tresnjak, with choreography by Peggy Hickey.

Tickets are available at the PPAC Box Office (located at 220 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence), by phone at (401) 421-ARTS (2787), and online at www.ppacri.org
